JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Residential
STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly), Part-time
SUPERVISOR: Kitchen Manager
LOCATION: Crownsville, MD
PAY RATE: $15.00-17.00 (Hourly)
SCHEDULE: Part-time Schedule: 1-2 days Monday - Friday & set schedule on Saturday & Sunday (hours are scheduled around meal prep and client schedules)
SUMMARY: Kitchen Assistant responsibilities include supervising the food prep and cooking, maintaining a fully-stocked kitchen inventory and complying with safety and cleanliness standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following;
- Assisting with the preparation and serving of daily meals, the purchase and stock supplies, and enforce food safety and sanitation rules.
- Assist with submitting menus and follows instructions of the Kitchen Manager. Assist with obtaining proper client meal counts, and maintains logs and documentation regarding food preparation services.
- Assist with preparing meals in accordance with established menus and State Health department rules and regulations.
- Assist with weekly inventory of supplies, food, and dry storage.
- In the case of special menu requirements, coordinates menu with dietary consultant and ensure that special diets are prepared according to instructions.
- Maintains professionalism and ethical conduct at all times with clients, staff, vendors, and Department of Health and Human Services Behavioral Health Community Support Services personnel.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum education level is a High School Diploma or equivalent with 3-4 years’ experience in food service establishments or;
- Associates Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management or related field with 1-2 years’ experience in purchasing food and stock, proper food preparation, kitchen safety techniques and a thorough understanding of health standards.
- Food Service Certification required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A general understanding and knowledge of Food service requirements.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
